Using the example of Janet, who is a Nurse with a large regional hospital and has a salary package is $60,000 per annum before Super. 

Her take home pay was $1,840 every fortnight before she paid the rent on her unit, which is $346 every fortnight. Therefore after she paid her rent, she had $1,494 left.

We set up her salary package to pay her rent from her pre-tax salary by using her available cap. Her take home pay after her rent was paid went to $1,610 every fortnight.

Effectively this meant that her pay increased by $116 every fortnight, which equates to an extra $3,016 per year.
